Wrinkle treatment with autologous fat

Autologous fat treatment

Lipofilling

An autologous fat treatment can be used to treat facial wrinkles in various areas.

Other methods of treating wrinkles include face-lifting procedures or the injection of muscle-relaxing medication.

Which of the facial measures makes the most sense depends on the type of wrinkles.

The positive property of autologous fat is that it is better absorbed by the body than other substances. On the other hand, a negative effect is that it is initially broken down relatively quickly by the body within months, making it difficult to estimate the final volume, which can lead to overfilling if less fat is broken down than expected.

A local anaesthetic is usually administered before the autologous fat treatment, but a general anaesthetic is also possible.
Fat cells are harvested from an inconspicuous area of the body, such as the inside of the knee, the abdomen or the hips, using a specific technique. It has been reported that other clinics often harvest a larger amount of fat than is needed for the first session of autologous fat injections so that it can be stored in a frozen state for a longer period of time. This is subject to the Transplantation Act and is punishable by law.
Of course, fat that was previously liposuctioned for aesthetic reasons is also suitable for injections elsewhere.

The material is cleaned before it is injected. The fat is injected under the skin or into a specific layer. This depends on the cause of the wrinkle formation. The so-called tunnel technique can be used to inject a single wrinkle over a long period of time. Once the required amount is present in the tissue, the autologous fat can be moved by pushing and pulling so that it is in the desired position.

After months, another fat injection session can or usually must be performed.

can lead to bleeding, secondary bleeding, infections, wound healing disorders and scars. Pigmentation disorders in the injection area are also possible. Pain and cosmetic problems may occur. Nerve damage can lead to a temporary or, in rare cases, permanent loss of sensation. Under certain circumstances, injected fat can get into a blood vessel, which can lead to vascular occlusion. Allergic reactions can also occur. Over- and undercorrections cannot always be prevented, but can be compensated for by renewed treatment or, if the injected area is too thick, will disappear of its own accord.

It can make sense to combine several wrinkle treatment techniques for different conditions. One example is the additional injection of hyaluronic acid for fine filling above an autologous fat pad. Muscle-relaxing medication injections can also be used to treat wrinkles caused by increased muscle tension.

In the vast majority of cases, more than one treatment session is required to achieve a satisfactory result. If a large proportion of the injected autologous fat has been broken down by the body after a period of time, one or more further sessions may also be required.
