A healthy scalp is extremely important as it has a positive effect on our hair and its growth. If it is impaired due to various influences, the hair can become thinner or even fall out. A new, special treatment focuses entirely on cleansing, stimulating and caring for the scalp.
In an interview with Dr. Murat Dağdelen, specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and founder and Medical Director of DiaMonD Aesthetics, we find out more about this new treatment option and its positive effects on our hair.

What is Hydrafacial Keravive?
Dr. Dağdelen: “Hydrafacial Keravive is a treatment that focuses on the care of the scalp. In general, the Hydrafacial is a system treatment that I offer for the facial skin, lips and eye area to cleanse, stimulate and care for these areas.
A treatment for the scalp is now new. Because many people who are unhappy with their hair or hair growth forget this: A healthy and well-groomed scalp goes hand in hand with beautiful and revitalized hair and hair growth.”
Why is it important that the scalp is healthy?
Dr. Dağdelen: “There are many people whose scalp causes them problems. There can be many reasons for this – genetic predisposition, illnesses or stress, for example, can all be triggers. The scalp then often lacks moisture, the hair follicles and pores can become clogged and blood circulation to the scalp is impaired. This inevitably leads to impaired hair and hair growth.
People with problematic scalps often suffer from thinning hair, hair loss or very slow hair growth. Caring for the scalp is not necessarily just a matter of using a mild shampoo to wash your hair.”
How does the treatment work?
Dr. DağdelenThe first step is to remove dead skin cells from the scalp using a mechanical peel: Using a hand-held device and special exfoliating attachment, the treating doctor moves over the scalp, working parting by parting to cleanse and exfoliate the scalp. This method resembles a pleasant massage and is completely painless. In the second step, the scalp is supplied with growth factors and proteins in the form of a serum. The same handheld device with a gentle attachment is used to work in the nourishing serum and stimulate the scalp. For aftercare, the patient then receives a take-home spray, which is applied to the scalp once a day and massaged in to prolong the nourishing effect of the treatment. Positive changes are already noticeable after the first session. Three sessions at one-month intervals are recommended.”

What effect does it have?
Dr. Dağdelen: “The main focus of the treatment is primarily the care of the scalp. However, this goes hand in hand with the health and beauty of the scalp, so the Keravive treatment also has a positive effect on your hair. This is because severe scaling on the skin can negatively affect blood circulation and therefore hair growth and structure. The extent of the effect varies from person to person.
Where the hair is thinning, the treatment can regenerate the density and thickness of the hair and sometimes stimulate growth. The treatment is also a good preventative option to keep the scalp and hair in a well-groomed and healthy condition.

Are there any risks?
Dr. Dağdelen: “The great thing is that the procedure does not treat the scalp with medication or surgery. The stimulation takes place in a very pleasant way and still achieves a clearly recognizable effect. The Keravive Hydrafacial is a good alternative for anyone who has already considered autologous blood therapy for the scalp, for example, but is afraid of injections.
Just make sure that there are no styling product residues on the scalp or hair before the treatment. If you have sores on your scalp, you should only have the treatment carried out once open wounds have healed.
How expensive is the treatment?
Dr. Dağdelen: “Hydrafacial Keravive has been available on the German market since mid-May. We are one of the first to offer the treatment. The cost of a treatment will be in the region of 500-600 euros per session. In general, however, it can be said that the treatment is cheaper in the long term than a hair transplant.”
