Restoration of the hymen
This membrane, which is more like a fold of mucous membrane, can take several forms, which vary greatly from woman to woman. As a rule, the membrane is only torn during the first sexual intercourse. The anatomical changes afterwards can take different forms, according to which the restoration strategy must then be determined. The end result should be a purposeful and adequate restoration of the hymenal ring. Hymenoplasty, or reconstruction of the hymenal ring, takes about 60 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. The healing phase lasts 2-3 weeks, after which in almost all cases there are no more traces of reconstruction or "suspicions". In addition to the usual surgical risks, which must be discussed individually with the patient before the operation, post-operative discomfort may occur, usually only a slight burning sensation and a feeling of pain.
A final check-up is carried out after 7 days. Sports activities that can lead to strain in the genital area should be avoided for the first four weeks.
After hymen reconstruction, tampons should not be used during menstruation, only sanitary pads, in order to avoid damaging the new hymen.
