Removing excess skin from enlarged labia
The labia minora close off the entrance to the vagina and protect it from foreign body infections and dehydration. Ideally, the labia minora should just cover the labia minora. Every labia reduction must pay attention to the balance of form and function. If the labia minora are too large, they hang down unattractively. This often leads to inhibitions about showing oneself naked. This can also have an adverse effect when cycling/riding or wearing tight pants.
During labia reduction, the excess skin of the enlarged labia is removed. This corrects them to a natural size. The labia are measured precisely beforehand. The area to be removed is marked. Sensitivity is rarely impaired. Impairments during intimate intercourse after the operation are generally not to be expected.
Labia reduction is usually performed under local anesthesia. General anesthesia is also possible on request. An inpatient stay may be necessary in severe cases. For reasons of hygiene, menstrual bleeding should not be expected for up to a week after labia reduction.
Gentle intimate cleansing is recommended during the wound healing phase. Sexual intercourse should be avoided for at least 6 weeks to prevent the closed wounds from rupturing. Restraint is also recommended during the first 4-6 weeks, especially when cycling and riding.
Complications such as inflammation and bleeding are possible - as with any operation - as are slight asymmetries. In most cases, there are no serious complications following labiaplasty. Slight swelling subsides after a few days.
The labia minora, clitoral hood and labia majora form an aesthetic unit. They often need to be corrected or tightened together. In cases where the labia majora are too small, they can be enlarged using autologous fat treatment.
